The trans is a TF727, the problems is when driving down the road it will make a rattling( almost grinding ) noise. When I let off of the
gas or get back on the gas it makes a clunking kind of sound. The transmission came from a '90 grand wag(I think). It shifts fine, downshifts
fine. It has a small leak at the seal behind the torque converter. I assume this thing getting ready to head south? Anyone know what the problem
is and if there is a way I could fix it myself.

The leak is probably your rear main seal, no big deal. The niose is probably a u-joint, seeing that 727 is pretty bullet proof.
If you haven't check your driveshafts, now would be the time

I had a similar problem and it was a rear wheel bearing. Check everything in the drive train. It's a process of illimination.
