Ok so here's the thing.......if you guys have been following my other post you know that My girlfriend just bought a 92 YJ. We're going to go get it tomorrow. It runs and drives great. It has the 2.5L 4 cyl engine and 5 spd tranny. Here's my question ------- I heard that these transmissions are likely to develop problems BECAUSE Jeep printed the wrong transmissino fluid in the manual. I've driven a few Jeeps with this problem, it is indeed common. So I want to drain the fluid in this one and put new fluid in.....just to be safe. Anyone know what fluid to use??? I think I heard somewhere to use GM syncromesh but I wanted some input from you guys

THANKS,

well I was told that GL-5 is exactly what you don't want to use.....but I'm a little confused........anyway I think I'm gonna get some REDLINE MT-90 That was recommended to me by a number of people. Here's my second question........how many quarts do I need??? At 7 bucks a quart I don't want to buy too many.

THANKS,

I got out my manual to check on the caps, no info on the amount only the normal fill procedure, fill till it runs out of fill hole. The manual states to use GL-5. My instructer at the Chrysler training center is the one that told us to use the GL-3 grade fluid.

I just filled the AX-15 in my '92 with Penzoil Synchromesh, and so far it's working fine. It's actually quieter and smoother than it was when I got the jeep. Plus, the GL-5 in it had a nice bronce tint to it.

Now, my new problem is that the clutch isn't disengaging all the way, making it a

to get into first gear. I noticed that it was a clutch problem when I had the Jeep on flat ground with the e-brake off. Without touching anything, standing still. Holding ghe clutch to the floor and attempting to put it in first resulted in the jeep rolling forward slightly. Let off the shifter, movement stops. *Sigh*

Time to rip the clutch assembly apart, and might as well replace it while I'm there.

I picked me up a hand pump.......now I just need to order the oil...........NOBODY around here carries it. The auto parts store even said that they sell GL-5 to the Jeep dealer down the road. UGH.....dealers around here kinda suck anyway. Oh well gonna order some REDLINE MT-90 that should do the trick........at least it had better at $7 a quart
