Tranny\'s almost in

okay, so we're putting the tranny back in after doing the clutch. It finally goes in all but a half inch or so. We don't have the biggest jack in the world and it's been a half hour or so, so we put some jack stands under it. My buddy's dad tells us that it's the tranny trying to squeeze into the pilot bushing that's causing such problems. It makes sense to me since they're so damn close in size. Sound right? Any tricks to getting that last little bit to ease on in?

Thanks

Re: Tranny\'s almost in

did you test fit the pilot bearing(bushing) first?
sometimes if you don't get the clutch disc centered perfect before you "evenly" tighten down the pressure plate you won't be able to get the input shaft/pilot bearing to line up.

does the clutch disc look centered?

you doing it right, /wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gifdon't draw it in by starting the bolts and thightening it down.

Geat advice, don't force it, it shoudl slide evenly and easily into place. If need be, take it out again and test fit the bearing.

Re: Tranny\'s almost in

Everything fits. I test fit the bearing before the install. I also double checked the clutch being centered before putting the bellhousing on. I think the problem was that the jack wouldn't roll foward anymore. We shoulda just left it, but we tried to back it out a hair and try again but of course it popped all the way out of the clutch disc. Back to square one.

Thanks guys

Re: Tranny\'s almost in

Are you turning the output shaft to get the input shaft into the clutch?? In order to get the input shaft into the clutch you need to have the tranny in gear, and rotate the output yoke.
