Hello all,

I just picked up a Tow vehicle for my Jeep. I got an 84 Blazer. I got it from the NJ turnpike. I went to hook up my utility trailer yesterday and found that the trailer plug for lighting was different. It looks the same but the connections are round instead of flat like the normal plug we have on every other vehicle. I checked my fathers work truck (turnpike truck) and its the same. Is this normal? Can I just make up an adapter? Or should I replace it?

If the trailer and truck are wired to the proper pins, you could go to Wal-Mart and get a round to flat adapter.

I might not have explained it clear enough.. I know there are the standard 4 or 5 wire flat connector.. There is also the large round connector with like 8? pins and one center. All of our trucks have this. However, my tow vehicle looks the same from the outside but the pins aren't "flat" they are round. so they don't connect to our trailers. Is this a un common plug? I have never seen it before.

Often a owner will change the trailer harness connector to mate with the Vehicle connector. If it's OEM you'll be in luck. Were I you, and I did not want to remove the existing trailer plug, I'd do the following:

1. Determine if the Vehicle plug is OEM.
2. IF so pick up a mating plug, they should be readily avaliable.
3. Splice it into the regular harness, so the trailer could be used by multiple vehicles.

Is the connector unusual? Nope...there are multiple types of vehicle and trailer harness plugs/connectors and all wanting to be the standard.

Hey just go down to pep boys and buy a rv trailer plug. That is what you dad has on his and what my trailer uses. What is on the truck now is what they call a commercial plug. I believe that the wire will transfer from the old one to the new in the same pattern. If you have any trouble just give me a call i have the pattern for the wires somewhere. See ya.

Can someone please bring me a hammer my 33's just ate my fender again. Damn i need more lift.
