8" worked pretty well for me.

windshield is a T-40
cage is a T-45 (I don't have any torx left in my cage but for some stupid reason I saved the ones I could get out /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif)

 

1/4", 5/16" and 3/8" drill bits.

Exactly, the torx head typically centers the drill pretty well. Then re-tap.
