Does any one have any tips on lifting a 97 k1500 by torsion bar tightening

Yeah, don't crank them more than an inch over the factory settings. At an inch you should be fine, lots of people do it. Much more than that, and you will have problems. Mine started out at almost 2" worth of cranking and I am steadily bringing it down....../wwwthreads_images/icons/tongue.gif.....

Anything over an inch and your asking for trouble. For awhile things will be fine, just a little stiffer ride, but then come the front end repairs...new ball joints, etc. I had a friend who cranked his almost max...when doing this I think you should get an alignment afterwards because it absolutely ate away his front tires. A mild 1" can give you just enough clearance sometimes to clear up a small tire rub or even out your ride a little more if you don't like the rear of the vehicle sitting up higher.

i did mine an inch over stock a few months ago. i like it much better. I also have 285/75son it. i had some HS kid ask me what brand of lift i used on it at a gas station...no lift though. Anywas, it does lok a bit more aggressive and the ride is a bit stiffer. that was my only complaint about thet ruck when i got it....too smooth. i bought an off-road truck not a damned lincoln. i want to feel some of the bumps.

Take a look at some of the 2-3" lifts. They are realtively inexpensive and simple to install. They relieve the problems with torsion bar lifts such as ball joints angles and cv axle angles. I took a look at e-bay and there is a 3" Rough Country lift for $300. Straight from the factory. I have a Skyjacker 3" on my 1/2 ton. Have had it for 3 years with little problem. The only drawback is the tie rods are at bad angles. Black Diamond has a killer looking 3" lift that comes with both lower and upper control arms and a tie rod lowering bracket.

How does it feel to be beaten by a sewing machine?

Yeah, that is interesting. Wonder if I could make it work with my Rancho kit. I'm seriously considering lowering my torsion bars down so I have 2" of front lift so I can hold an alignment./wwwthreads_images/icons/tongue.gif
