For those that still have questions (anton and others) about the 4.16:1 ration made from a 1ltr xfer case and a 1.3ltr xfer case here is your answer.

from 1984 and earlier you will find the 12% reduction xfer cases. They are now all 12% so you ahve to be careful. They are more prominent during 1984.

from what I have been told, the ratios chaged after 1984 as the 1ltr was not produced. then came the 1.3 with the 4 or 5 spd. however there are still some 1990+ models that have the 1ltr xfer case (maruti ute for instance). Howver these don't have the 12% reduction as the gearbox has a different ration.

This info is supplied purely on what I have been told after speeking to many "zook" specialists here in australia. I could be wrong.

your best bet would be to try and locate an '84 12% xfer case or purchase the following parts:
29221-80050 high output gear
29121-80050 counter gear
29111-80450 input shaft

in a prior post "FOR YOU GEARING GURU's" or something like that there is a link to the installtion of the gears. It also tells you what gears need to be cut and welded together. check there for more information.

have fun and keep on zookin

I had 4 t-cases in my basement last month, a 83, (2)84's and a 87, the 83 has a lower gear reduction than the 87 but the internal shafts are smaller, the 84's have the same ratio as the 83 but they have bigger shafts (The same size shafts as the 87) that is why you can use a 84 t-case for a rocklobster project but not the 82/83. The babylobster is a t-case from a 1984 to about 1985&1/2, than they changed to a higher gear ratio. Hope this helps!
