Well, I finally smashed the rear end on my scrambler.I sure do like the room it affords for tools and such,but the spare tire is definitly going somwhere else..It got in a hurry going backwards(all the while thinking it was in second) pop the clutch (smash,@!#[email protected]#$&$%@##$) . We got it pulled back out enough for the spare to close again,but the qtr panel is buckled and the sheet metal in the floor is all wrinkled.I'm having a hard time deciding on this one.It would definitly wheel a little better without the over hang,but once it's cut I cant get that space back.......what do you'all think?

Oops! Here's an option I've thought of, even with a full bed Scrambler - fabricate a "shelf" like a car-top carrier that is even with the top of the bed or wheelwells, has a rail around it that allows you to slide the spare in/under it and then have storage above it to strap in coolers, gear, etc... then when you bob off the back foot or so of bed, you won't be loosing to much. I store my spare flat in the bottom of the bed anyway, without a tailgate - gives 100% view of whats behind you, on the trail. (good for backing up). My idea was to modify a Rubicon Rack or something similar. Good luck, and sorry to hear about the smash-up.

I may not understand fully what you are thinking of cutting. Are you talking about shorting the body length in the back. I don't know too much about Scramblers, but I wouldn't do that just due to aesthetics. I think the long body is unique. If I got this wrong, sorry.

The being (unique) is what I'm having trouble with,but the ole ass dragger concept is the reason it happened.I need to find a fold and tumble rear seat,and everything would work if I cut it.I just cant leave the thing like it is,the tailgate is a b#$%h to shut.

Get the sawzall out and just do it. I think it would look cool. Bring it back all the way to the shackles.

I emailed the pic to a friend that is/was considering bobbing his because of the hangability of it too. Keep the wheelbase and lose the overhang.

Cut that sucker!!!! Them scramblers are ugly with all that overhang anyways! (I know I'm going to hear about that comment!) I always considered taking a scrambler and moving the rear axle all the way to the rear. Now that would be cool!

Don't bob it! guard it! We have a tail dragger too, but we are replacing its already indestructable bumper with an even badder one that will protect the corners. We have considered rollers under the frame rails to cut down on the noise as we drag thru Moab ;-) I have seen lots of bobbed jobs and they have all looked very professional. We have two kids (fold and tumble seat added-with roll cage) who ride ever where we do and so we need the extra room to carry stuff.

It hard to tell you to cut it because thats what gives the scramblers there unique look, but just reinforcing the rear with bumpers or rollers, only gives you a stronger ledge to hang up on. The rear tire is fairly easily solved, I mount my spare on the roof when rock crawling, and the whole tire and gas can mount removes with 2 bolts. Tough decision on the tail tuck though, but it is seriouse design flaw.

1. Scramblers are fairly rare.
2. Fix it.
3. Sell it to someone, for the premimum they can demand, who really wants a Scrambler.
4. Use the money to buy a CJ5 or CJ7.
