What is the biggest size tire to mount on a 98 Grand Cherokee with out lifting it or having them rub?

According to a chart in Four Wheeler mag, the stock will handle a 29x9.50 and 31x10.50s with a 2" lift. There are no notes for the in-between sizes of 30x9.50 and 31x10.50. Guess you're on your own there. Best bet is to ask your local high-volume tire dealer. They have a chart with what fits - what doesn't.

Do you have 16" rims? I know that was at least an option - if not standard on '98's. If so, you'll have to have a metric size, but that's not all bad. 16" tires come in all sorts of narrow sizes & you can increase height without increasing width. This makes clearance less of an issue.

It currently has 225/75/15's

I was looking at either a 235 or 30, maybe 30.5
Just looked at some Duellers and some Firestones. My wife wants an aggressive looking pattern so we'll see. I am really not happy with the tread life of the Good Year's currently on the Jeep; 36k miles and nothing left (Wrangler A/P's).

My 85 Cherokee and my moms 97 Cherokee both sport 235/75/15's. I doubt that the Grand Cherokee is much different, but the tire dealer can definatly tell you. I found a nice set of "Traction XTC" tires that preform really well. I don't know if they are generic brand or even if they are made. They are considered snow tires but have held up really well. They are a little over 3.5 years old (granted the jeep sat for 2 years) and are only about a 1/4 of the wear.
