If you would like the axles to stay together, then you should stick to no more than 33". Dana 30's are good up to 33", Dana 44's are good up to 35". If your AMC 20 rear has the one piece axles, then it's comparable to a Dana 44. If not, then it's comparable to a Dana 30. Now this said, there's many rigs running with big ol' meats with axles like yours. I prefer reliability over looks. If you want to run bigger than 35's then you should consider Dana 60's or comparable.

Yeah, with stock axles and 39.50 boggers, that rig wouldn't stand a chance at Tellico. I've seen people breaking D60s up there.

i have seen rigs that ONLY run in the mud run any tires they want on stock axles with big blocks.. its all a matter of traction.. if the wheels just spin.. nothing breaks. i had that theory..i allways ran mud and ran dana 30 front/amc20 rear with no problems. then i went to tellico....and ..well.. i had more traction on the rocks than in the mud and broke every part of that dana 30.. that was with 35" bfg mt... i now have 35X16 boggers and the dana 44/amc 20 seem to handle them fine

If all you did was mud (not Tellico), your axles would hold up better, but they're still not up to Boggers of any kind - especially the 30 front. I trashed a good one with 33's. You could get away with Swampers that big if you just ran mud & went 44/44 on your running gear, but Boggers will require at least a rear 60 - and if you plan to wheel it hard on trails, you'll need one up front also.
