I'm working on replacing all the old rubber spacers/bushings on my '85 CJ8 with new poly ones and I'm down to the tie rod & steering rod bushings. I've never messed with these before, can someone point me to an article somewhere on replacing these bushings, or give me a quick overview of what the steps are?

I know I'll need a puller to take the tie rods off and guessing that is available from somewhere like AutoZone with their loan-a-tool program.

Will I need to have the wheels realigned afterwards?

thanks

As for the Tie rod ends on the knuckle, all you need to do is to take a BFH and smack the knuckle right next to the TieRod End 3 or 4 times and it will literally fall out. no special tools need

Keep in mind that if you replace the rubber with poly, you should use a poly compatible grease. Otherwise the poly will deteriorate with regular ole bearing / petroleum grease. Just a thought.

FYI, those aren't bushings. They are just dust seals to keep the grease in and junk out. The actual bushings inside are not replaceable. You have to replace the whole tie rod end if they are worn out.
