This new format stinks!

This thing is so disfunctional as to be nearly useless. What a mistake and I'm sure a huge cash outlay for the Off-road.

just wondering why you say this is disfunctional? I don't want to start a fight here, but what stuff about it don't you like? I happen to think this board is 100% better than the old one, IMHO. Maybe it'll be something simple that you don't like about it, and we can advise you about how you can adjust it to your particular likes...

I already played around with the options before I posted that nmessage, so setup is not a factor. I just liked the way the old board loaded so quickly compared to this new forum.

Truthfully, I think the [censored] folks have the easiest to use forums. For example, the clowns that run this board are so paranoid, they censored the name four by four for you in the previous sentence.

Also, the order of the posts keeps changing so that the thread with the newest post is on top and not the newest thread is on top.

Also, it doesn't automatically quote the previous posts, so it';s not as easy to follow the thread or intermesh my comments with the original post.

Also, I don't like the idea that the poster can change the post at a later date....makes it really easy to change your story at a later date.

Otherwise, it's just peachy ;-)

Later,

Harry

Re: This format will grow on you.

::<: Harry, I'm sure that over time you will figure out this format and how to make it do tricks. It's a lot easier than flying a helicopter, and the crashes don't spread parts all over the landscape.

Re: This format will grow on you.

Dave,

Ha, ha, ha...now that was the funniest thing I've heard all day!

Anyway, I've got it figured out, I just don't like the quirks. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to deal with it.

BTW, one other quirk/deficiency....it would be nice if it had the feature that you know who (4X44Udotcom) has that allows you to just look at just today's posts (or did I miss that one?).

Re: Format and Hueys

::<: I believe that their answer to that is the little orange rectangles that say "new" in the poster column. You're right, it IS a handy feature the way XXXX has it. Gads! We are STILL working on this CJ! Building the ultimate SNOJEEP takes time and $$$$. But still.....

You mean money doesn't grow on trees where you live ;-) Good luck with the build up!

We have censored only the most vulgar words like the one you used in describing the owners and operators of this BBS, i.e. Off-Road.com.

Tell me, do you always act like this way when in someone elses home our proprietorship?

Such an attitude aligns exactly with the view liberal and enviro elites have of off-roaders.

My only complaint is that on the old forum, we were one big Jeep family, sitting around the dinner table and talking and learning from each other. Now, each type of Jeep has its own little cubby hole, Short Wheelbase, Mid-size and Full Size. It's like we aren't supposed to speak to each other.

Well, I'm not going for it. Hope you guys don't mind a visit from time to time from your Cherokee XJ "cousin". Happy Jeepin'!!

OK here's my gripe/question.
How can I see more than ten threads per page? I'd MUCH rather see 100 than ten, because then I cn just scan the headings for interesting threads.
Overall I like the format - but I've gotten a bit lost with sooo many pages....

Re: This Page-Woody see FAQ

Wooders, there is a note on the FAQ page that mentions something about the number of posts per page. Check that out. This BBS is actually cleverly designed, we just need to read the owner's instructions sometimes.

Re: This new format for all Jeeps

Yeah, I know what you mean, and apparently so do others because 582 to 15 is a pretty lopsided score. I have a ZJ and it never occurred to me to go to the other page. We sort of identify with our CJ, but the ZJ is every inch a Jeep. We drive RIGHT BY the Exploders, the Troopies, the Blazies, and the Navaligators in deep snow, so I guess the front drive must be workin' huh?

Re: This new format for all Jeeps

With only 15 posts compared to 587, there SEEMS to be some reluctance to post on a specific page...at least in this case. It probably isn't true for some other makes of vehicle, but the Jeep parts fit vehicles of many different types and models so it is really normal to post together. So many times, Jeep people have a grocery hauler XJ,ZJ,Waggie,WJ; and then a knock-down drag out rockcrawler short wheelbase, just like we do. We wouldn't THINK of taking our ZJ in the rocks, but we still need to know about any shortcomings, and this page is full of that sort of info. This IS a good format, now that I have quit griping and started studying.

Re: This new format for all Jeeps

I agree about that. However, it must be remembered that having a off road, built up CJ, YJ, TJ is sometimes a luxury. If you can only have one, then I think it's much better to have a wagon bodied or pick up Jeep to do all the things that are required of it, including off road fun. I would like to have a Short Wheelbase Jeep too but right now, it's just not practical.

Thanks for the advice concerning customizing. I'll defiitely check it out.

Re: This new format for all Jeeps

I like the new format a LOT better. Posts with recent replies (the only ones I'm interested in) are atthe top and clearly visible, and I can read all the messages in a thread without having to click on and download each one separately.

Re: This new format for all Jeeps

I personally like the new board. I also liked the old one. Why not just keep both of them up and make everybody happy. Just think, twice the banners, and probably twice as many hits!

p.s. Where can I get an "off-road.com" sticker for my windshield like Terry's? Now there is an advertising hit!

Patrick,

You're joking right? I called you clowns. No vulgarity at all. And you censor much more than vulgar words anyway. For example, you censor the names of competing forums, like [censored]. Since I'm sure this is censored, I'll spell it out to defeat this ludicrous and thoroughly immature censorship.... four by four for you dot com.

And you must have a very warped idea of reality if you feel my comments about the design of the board in any way align me with enviro elites or liberals.

I'd have to say that any words other than vulgar should be left as they are... Obsenities are irrelevant to this board and shouldn't be here, but competitor's names and such, in my humble opinion, should be left as-is. The only other thing I will say here is that whether or not you like the board, there's no real reason to go badmouthing the company. I'm not affiliated with any company, or thing like that, I just like to see peace and harmony on these boards. Well, maybe I will say one more thing... Are you sure you got all the settings on there right Harry? You can set it up so that you can click a message and see all the threads that go with it, if you want. That is much better than the old board where you had to click one and hit back, and none of the posts from different days were grouped together... Take it easy everybody! Try to give the board a chance everyone, I'm pretty sure it'll grow on you, except maybe the censoring of non-vulgar website names and such. But that's just my opinion. I have no reason to talk about other websites, because this is the first one that I have used. I liked this one, and haven't bothered to look at any others, but anyway, I'll shut up now...

CJDave, Thanks for the Tip - I was sure I'd seen it somewhere. Time to re-read the destructions.

Sensorship - Fine on vulgar references. BUT I disagree with sensoring references to other forums. Especially since many people like more boards to visit not to just change. Personally, I visit 5 different BBS every day & will continue to do so. Why? because something you like to type to a different crowd or know members on that particular board that you KNOW can help.

Anyways that sensorship Sux.

Re: This new format not stinketh!

The whole censorship thing really needs to be looked at, dudes. If we can't post something on a different board that could help us, then are you, i.e., off-road.com, really looking at helping us, or just looking at making your own wallets bigger? Why can't harry post his other 4xwhatever it is....???? If you are indeed censoring that, then I don't really think that you have my, and our, benefits at the forefront of your concern, and that stinks. What if it were a post concerning land use, or tread lightly, that you were censoring out our ability to see?

...think about it.
