I REALLY, REALLY hope I meet up with this moron, alone. I do plan to E-Mail these freaks with a nice little flame letter....I will post it if anyone wants it.

I also would like to see it. I can not believe these greenie whacko eco nazis are so damn irresponsible that they are more concerned about the ground then a human life. Are these people that pathetic that they have to resort to this behaviour? wait....dont answer that...nevermind..just had to rant...

post the email...thanks

This is going up in the LandUse Section for all to see and respond to. I find it abolutely incredible that another supposedly human being
cared more about the "fragile tundra" than the fact that someone lost their life. Those guys a week or so ago near Silverton just acted
stupid, but this goes onto another level where you have to draw the line. The greenie has crossed that line.

I added to this post

I sent a nice letter to the folks at the 285 Underground. Let's see if they print it or even reply for that matter.

I read the 911 entry regarding the death of Jeeper in your locale and am truly saddened by that unfortunate loss of life.

What saddens me even more is your apparent attitude that his death was the secondary issue and that the damage to the (tundra) was of greater severity.

Your insensitivity is appalling to say the least. To imply that the loss of life is of lesser importantance than damage to a mountain causes me and a lot of others to wonder about the direction of your priorities.

I do not expect you to publish this letter in your periodical nor do I expect you discuss it with your peers. However, you may rest assured that I will do everything in my power to inform as many people as possible of your callous disregard for human life.

Uh ... Whatever I bet, I just lost 10 of them.

It seems the editor of the 285 Underground got more than the letters from myself and Mr. Courtenay.

Notwithstanding the editor's original error in judgement, he has published a lengthy apology and also a slew of letters critical of his lack of sensitivity.

Check out their site ...

I sent the following this morning:

"Dear Sirs:

I find the article displayed on your website to be of incredibly poor taste.

The composition makes reference to the "fragile mountain tundra" and how the scars make take decades to heal. Why was this even in the article? Isn't it enough a person died? How about being a little more sensitive to the loss of a human life.

This is yet another example of the media skewing the issue, which is that a person's life was lost, not that the "precious tundra" was damaged. It's articles like this that are fanning the flames of delineation and helping to tear this country apart.

The tundra will recover, it may take time, but Mike's death will never reverse itself. If you want to mention something "fragile", mention the pain and suffering his family and peers will endure.

I am dismayed at this callous publication. The reference to "toys" also bothers those of us that use our OHV's for what they were intended. Those "toys" have helped numerous fire departments fighting brush fires in remote regions and aided in numerous Search and Rescue efforts. Without those "toys", getting medical and firefighting supplies into remote regions would be impossible. Those "toys" are equipment, and very specialized equipment, a "toy" is an insignificant ornament.

I do not know who wrote the article, but in the future please have them show a little more sincerity and compassion on an issue such as this.

Respectfully,

Mark Courtenay

Maybe it they get enough of them, they'll straighten out.

Mr. Reese sent me back a letter thanking me for my letter. He also said the comment was not intended and he removed it. He said he spent a few hours there going over the incident. I explained the incident in Texas ,and how this paralleled that one. He sounded really sincere and mentioned my letter was one of the kinder ones. He sounds like a decent guy that just wrote the article without thinking.

Yeah, I noticed they changed their page. I am still going to write to them anyway. Give me a few more days. Have been away from the PC for awhile and need to get some somethings done at work. Until then, this is what a friend of mine sent to them:

Dear My Reed,

Yesterday I had the unfortunate opportunity to be directed to your site, specifically to the article about Mike Lane, who lost his life at Gibson Lake. It is with equal sadness and outrage that I condemn you for your insensitivity to the loss of a great man’s life. The last line of your article states that the scars on the "Fragile Tundra may be there for decades". I could not believe that anyone lacked moral turpitude to a degree that they would dare value some mangy grass more than a human life. Your extreme lack of respect was even further displayed when you actually had the audacity to post photographs of the aforementioned mangy grass, alongside horrific images of the vehicles carcass.

Your stunning lack of sensitivity, class, and basic human kindness moves me to take action. Up until this moment I was more or less sitting on the fence with environmental issues. I do hold a political position in my community and up until now I would seriously consider which way to vote on environmental/land use issues. I can promise you now that I will vote against them unilaterally without consideration, I will donate my time and money to the fight against your type on eco-besotted lunacy.
