My zuk is bone stock except for the lockrite and the 29" swampers. Its small and low to the ground but you know what i can have so much more fun with it like that. No matter where i go i always here "aint no way in hell" and very soon after i hear "well ill be damned".

Big rigs are awesome, i wish i had the time and money to build one. But the true beauty of a zuk is what it will do in stock form.

Jus my .02 worth at midnite after spendin 2 hours adjustin the clutch.

Please dont think i dislike the big zuks, i think they are cool as hell. Cant wait till the melt to see them in person.

With your set-up you won't be breaking driveline parts and you'll be less likely to roll over. I know the owners of several highly modified
Samurais that look back fondly on the care free happy days when their rigs were closer to stock. Enjoy what you've got.

That's the entire reason I've stuck with a basic SPOA on Samurai #1. 31" tires with lockers will get you through most obstacles. Plus you can be a little careless and hard on the powertrain but it still won't break.

Samurai #2 has an OME lift and 30" tires. I've had no problems whatsoever due to the lift. The rig now has a total of 170K miles on it and I plan on getting at least another 50K before I "retire" it for trail use only.

One a similar note I went on a Gad-Zuks of Washington run several years ago. There were alot of built up rigs with 32" + tires, SPOA, gearing, etc and amongst this group was a stock looking Samurai with just 215/75 MT tires and lockers front/rear. That guy went everywhere the built rigs went albeit scraping itself along some of the obstacles.

Yeah, I have a few mods and a rear locker and then some frisbie with a stock zuk (apart from tires) gets up a bank that I keep getting vertical on. (my wife bailed before the front wheels hit the dirt)
Mind you I was the most photographed truck there.
But darn it, this dude upstaged me, and I spent heaps.
Nothing beats a zuk, modded or not modded.
They are jus amazin.

Re: True beauty of a zuk

Yep, I agree with you! I didn't plan on doing as many mods to my Zuke as I have, but I just can't help myself! /wwwthreads_images/icons/crazy.gif
When I used to go wheeling with my buddies in my old Jeep, I always got razzed, for whatever reason (even tho I went more places than they did), maybe Jeep envy or whatever. Now with my Zuke, they just stand back to watch and see, then are amazed at what she can do.
I like all kinds of rigs, and each has it's pros and cons, but the best thing on the trail, IMHO, is the Suzuki Samurai /wwwthreads_images/icons/wink.gif /wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif

You are so right zukinut! I went on a ride about 3 weeks ago with a bunch of people that came up from Harrisburg and Maryland to ride soom trails in my area. Me and a yj were the only stock ones there and I had on some almost bald street tires! Well I never thought I would be able to stay with the group, but except for a extreme rocky stream bed I went everywhere they went! I even walked over a few things the stock yj had to really hammer on to make. :) On the first hillclimb when I got to the top I got out and my leg was shakin! I went places that day I never dreamed of takin my zuk. After the ride I realized that with some good tires, a little more clearance and maybe a rear locker, my zuk could probably take me wherever I needed to go around here. I picked up a set of 29" super swamper tsl for $50 for all 4 last week, but I think the wife has a big surprise for me on christmas! I'm hoping for a lift kit, rims and tires! I think with a zuk if you use the K.I.S.S method and stay lightweight you can have just as much fun as the big boys. Personally I like a challenge and if you build your rig to the hilt I think you take away some of the fun factor when you can just walk over everthing. Just my .02 cents. Sorry for the long post but I can't shut up when it comes to my samurai! Merry Christmas Everyone!

I love my little zook, 4.5" or so, 29x10.50 super swampers and a lockrite in the back, I can go anywhere! Except I kinna sink in the real deep slurry muck down here, the stuff will swallow 44 boggers easy, it is fun getting draged butt backwards through 44" ruts!!!

I'm LOCKED!

I dont drive my sami everyday and thats why i had 2 stickers made for the tacoma's back window. On one side it has JEEP with a no smoking ring over it and on the other side ive got the Suzuki "S" with SAMURAI under it.

Call me crazy but gettin stuck is half the fun. When i get stuck is jus figure out another line and go for it again.

i have built up about 7 zuks all spoa and 31s and up and the best set up i have found for a all around bad a$$ zuk. [drum roll please] simple spoa, 4.16 case, 4.57s , lock rites f&r and a set of 32x10.5 swamper radials. this one has been the best all around zuk i have had dealings with. i mean it drives good on the road as in 75 mph, is bad ass in the rocks, pretty awsome in the mud. and i belive the real reason it has done so well it that its not over kill anywhere. it has been to oklahoma, colorado, and moab this year and never broke. i just think that is about the max tire you should have on a 80 in wheel base. and all this coming from a guy with 33s, 4.16,5.13s and locked f&r. his rig is a joy to wheel and it kicks a$$. but a stock zuk can make some pretty good climbs and run the heck out of fire roads. it was just a very good package that suzuki made for us. mike
