Oh sure, Brian, now everyones gonna have one
Now.. if anyone's gonna try building one of these, let me give you some hints, ok?
First of all... you gotta make it a 100% scavenger hunt project. That was the most fun to me -- finding someone who had a little something here and a little something there for a few bucks.
Like Bill Maulding of Beanco for finding me a Zuk that coudn't possibly be used for anything else. John Acuff had a set of shocks that kept it steady on those wheels.. Neil Gies had just replaced his back door to his hardtop after a minor accident, he let me have that for shipping costs, and my buddy andy at work had some old Tow Chains that I didn't even know I needed. Most recently, Larry robertson shared his old black top with me which saved me a CONSIDERABLE amout of money and for which I am very thankful.
Then there's the people. Bean and Parky and Gordito for helping me cut the old truck in half and then welding together the hitch for me, then the Fabbest Fabfest crew there ever was... Everyone took part in this one and it was incredible seeing everyone scurrying around like the Men of Texaco who Work from Maine To Mexico to get it together... SPecail thanks to BillyBob and Trailwalker for a fine practical explanation of ******* Consulting and Hillbilly Engineering, but also to Ranger Rick for his constant patience with me, always getting in over my head with little projects starting wtih "sure I know what I'm doing." That and a seat coming from ... AK is it Smitty or Brentley? One of you two offered me a back seat. You rock! Friend Brandy (some of you may remember her as the girl that tried to kill me with a black volkswagen pickup truck) always was curious about how to do bodywork, so together she and I mixed, spread, sanded and painted and painted again what would turn out to be two gallons of Bondo.
It all came together nicely.
But with this stone-soup project I learned a lot about Zukin, and had a lot of time to think. THis thing would have never even been CONCIEVED without the brains and generosity of those folks above. And I feel pretty wrong about saying "my" trailer that "I" built. This was a true cross-country group project.
