Looks good! So is that going to be considered street legal in AZ.? Dig the EXO-cage as well, did you do the cage work yourself? Also what springs are you running? Kinda looks like longer springs in the rear? (ie. 63" chevys?)

Ya, I did the cage work, I have a Pro Tools bender.

I still have all the lights so its street legal, because its registered as a "station wagon" I dont "need" mud flaps.....

Yes for the chevys, I wouldnt do them again, all the crap I had to do to get the lift I wanted I could have gotten AllPro springs that wouldnt drag everywhere.........

The frame in my truck is nearly toast and I’m thinking about swapping it out. I have a donor truck with a great frame but I’m thinking of going with bigger wheels and that’ll be harder on axles and front end. A welder in town here dragged an old 2 ½ ton army truck out of a pit and did up the frame. He set it up to bolt his GMC body to it, sandblasted and painted and then lost interest. I’m thinking about buying it but it’s got the original axles and tires and I’m not crazy about that. I’m thinking of buying a set of 2 ½ T wheels, tires and axles from Boyce. Ever had any dealings with them or heard anything about their stuff?

You can get custom rims built (for alot less $$ than you think) and then run 15" tires......

But theres alot of those 49" Michlen ex military tires that are nice also that are ment to run on those rockwell sized rims......

I have heard good things about Boyce....

I've heard enough BAD things about a guy named Daniel from 6X6 USA (or somthing like that) to steer you away from him.

Another thing is that with those Rockwell axles you have to use a link type suspension if you want any type of suspension flex because leaf springs will have to be too stiff to stop the springs from wrapping and doing bad things.......
So, once you've built the cross menbers for the links to mount, you "might" as well keep whats left of the stock GMC frame......

And ......... what size tire are you thinking of??

 

I’m thinking 40-44’s, but I would consider bigger if they’d fit, and something wide that’ll float on top of the snow. The axles I’m looking at from Boyce have disc brakes and lockers. They said they even have a rear steer kit for a few extra bucks, 2 front axles instead of front and rear. My frame is bent to **** and 2 body mounts snapped off last time I was up at the cabin. I hauled in a gang of people and I guess the extra passenger weight was the straw…..couldn’t handle the frame twists. The cab dropped forward into the front fenders and I near had to climb out the window. I jacked up the body and slid some 2 X 4’s between it and the frame to get me home without tearing the body and fenders up. All my crossmembers look like bridge arches and the bottom flange of the frame is worn thin as a razor blade form scraping over rock drops.
The 2 ½ ton frame is a beauty, heavy but tough as nails and absolutely rust free. There’s not a lot of advantages to living in the Arctic, but one is that nothing rusts. The frame is already cut, body mounts in place and steering box set up for a new GM body. I’d like disc brakes in something that heavy and lockers for sure. Boyce will take my axles on trade, but it may not be worth it due to high shipping costs.
My brother is a manager at a Michelin plant and can get me a great deal on the tires. I’m thinking that my truck will never see the south again so I may as well hog it right out. Maybe I’ll use the stock frame to build the swingarms out of.

Hey all! How's life been treating ya.
I've been quite busy working, and doing lots of rides on the 950 adventure.
I just returned fro a trip around lake Michigan. I logged close to 1200 miles, most of it highway, but one full day was on the ORV trails and fire roads of th U.P. All in all a good ride but the highway miles will be skipped and I'll just play in the U.P.

Hey nice Trials bike! I've thinking about getting one myself.

Anything new with you guys?
