Before I took delivery of my '71, the front transmission seal was replaced. Since the tranny was totally devoid of any fluid, I filled it. The tranny now shifts from park to rev. with a very pronounced jerk. Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Dido.

That is common with the 3 Jeepsters that I have with the TH400.

Yep, even my 72 Wag with the same drivetrain does it, a little disconcerting at first but you get used to it. You could check the tranny mount and torque bushings on the stud just to make sure they are all there and in good shape.

I've found out what causes this.
Later model trannys have a revised valve body (or something) that delays or slows down the cluch apply pressure. That way grandma driving your jeep won't get whipplash

Mine does it also, try turning down the idle to keep the u joints happy.

that's actually a good thing. going from P or N to any gear should be an immediate and solid shift. it indicates the clutches and pump are working like they should.
