How many of you are from Texas?

I'm in South Texas, way South, close to Mexico. The area is called the Rio Grande Valley. We are about 3 or 4 hours South of San Antonio. Close to Mexico, close to the beach (South Padre Island).

Roy,
don't live there, but have spent a lot of time in your area. Our company is dabbling in the (this will be mis-spelled) Maquilla Dora Industry in Matamoros & Valle Hermoso. We stay in Harlingen. You ever make it to the mud drags in Los Fresnos? Eat at Lone Star & The Longhorn in Harlingen? Hey, what's the name of that restaurant on the island way on the South end? You cross the bridge, then hang a right & go way to the end. Place burned down not too long ago, but was rebuilt real nice. FANTASTIC Grouper! Man, I'm hungry/wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif!

I live about half an hour from Harlingen. Yes I have gone to the mud drags, yes I have eaten at the Lone Star and Longhorn, and the name of the place you are talking about on the Island is the Sea Ranch.

P.S. Maquiladora is one word. We have those on the other side of our border too in Reynonsa.

Yeah, that's it - The Sea Ranch. Good grub. We pretty much hit the Lone Star every time down. Longhorn is a little stickier - they don't take plastic money & we're required to provide receipts for bills over $25. Plus, the "senior" associate is supposed to pay & normally there are 8-10 of us. Been to Reynosa once to take my wife shopping. Tell me something. Don't you think this is odd? If you rent an "Intermediate" car from Budget at McAllen, you get a Ford Contour or similar. In Harlingen, from Budget, you get an Escort or similar. To get a Contour or similar in Harlingen, you have to ask for a "Standard". Knowing how far apart these two towns are, you'll probably find that amusing. Oh yeah, a 4-cylinder Camry is called a "full size" at both locations. HA!

BTW, any other really good places to eat in Harlingen - aside from those & Terry's Que Pasta?

Try Tila's behind the mall for good mexican food. There is also a good Mexican rest. by the airport, forgot the name. Jackson square has some antique shops with sandwich shops in them, the food is good, but not too filling, just right for a light lunch.
