Folks,

We have converted the BBS to a new BBS application and I would like to have you try it out and comment.

It's a lot faster and has more features. The color theme has not been editied but will match what you see here if adopted.

There are a few bugs and a few config items that do not match well. We will fix these.

The new app is at http://bbstemp.off-road.com/ff

Your present login and password should work fine.

I didn't like it. I couldn't view it in tree mode in Netscape 4.7 and it went wide,
(no wordwrap) in flat mode, so its a pain to read the posts.

In IE I could see the tree mode but it was no help.

The real issue though is you can't see a thread, only one message at a time. How you
are expected to have a sense of a conversation, I can't tell. The purpose of a forum
like this is communication. I don't see this format helping to get information and dialog
moving.

I looked a bit for some display button, but found none, other than the flat or tree mode.

tree mode is useless. you can't see anything but who posted. an open forum, not one
split by thread and counter threa, is better.

Flat mode is OK for the list of current threads, but once entered a thread should be
visable in its entirety, or at least significant portions therof.

Please dont change the board . The one we currently have is easy to use . I didnt care for the way you view messages on the new one . It almost seems to be a step backwards .

I don't like that I have to select "flat view" for every message. I would rather be able to select the view type and have it stay that way until I want to change it.

I vote to keep the current format, also. I found the new format annoying and hard to use. I like to be able to see the threads ascending and be able to read them all without a lot of work to switch around to them. This current format seems much cleaner, and that is one major reason I like this bbs so much. I can't stand the format all others use.

Put me down as a test board hater.
I can't login with my current username on the test board. I don't want to change my username to be on it. (I'm already on my 2nd username due to system flakiness) When I view my old posts from the current board on the test board, MY AVATAR IS HUGE! I don't like having the poster's info at the top, I prefer it at the side like the current board.
I knew you were waiting to hear from me.

First on one of my computers, the Libretto I normally use, IT SUCKS. It doesn't wrap the text. A paragraph is one long line. It's using a very old version of Netscape, 4.78 I think it was.

I didn't find it to load any faster on dial-up. That was amazing since it didn't have to load this:

or this and the associated links.;

or this and the associated links.;

Or the one that takes the most time, the animated advertising banner.

The electronic monkey doesn't have to sort the threads either. They just linked a bunch of old post into their new demo that never change. It doesn't have to sort them to display them in the correct order. It's all smoke and mirrors.

If they want faster, get rid of some of the
advertising and the pop-ups.

This isn't much of a test. I can't set my preferences, I can't post, I can't even see what it really looks like or even how long it will take once it has to keep up with the most current posts. They might just as well have pressed the "print screen" button and given us a picture of what it would look like for all the value this "test" is. I didn't buy my Jeep by looking at a picture of it and taking a ride in the back seat and I'm not making any favorable comments about this change without seeing it under REAL conditions.

If they want to fix something, get the system clock set right so that I don't have to use a decimal offset of 2.7 hours and give me credit for my 500 other posts.

And what is this, I use the word "Jeep" in my post and the software automatically puts in a link to some site. This board is getting,

with all the

I don't like the new one at all.

I like the old version, and I think it is the easiest to read out of all the BBS I use (suzuki, 4x4, and other hobbies)

Please don't change!

I love it even though I cannot log in with my current login/password. This old format has to go!! It is very slow and I have been getting complaints about it for months.

Everything works fine while viewing it for me. No problem with wordwrap and such. Of course, I'm running IE 6

The software that Pirate4x4 uses would be a very welcomed upgrade.

Please list me as not being in favour of changing to the new format. I browse this board a lot and like the current format of being able to see all posts on one topic without having to refresh the screen. I do not post much but I've found this bb format to be far better than any I've previously visited.

I can deal with the slower speed as long as I like the board (put up with it since I had dial up two or three changes ago..), the new software bites a#$. Put me down as a hater. (let alone I can't log in there)
