TeamRush\'s Dist upgrade

Well I did the upgrade today. Had some spare time..I did have plenty of room for my P/S pump no need to move it. I am using a 53.5" P/S belt . Hope that helps 'yall. Here is a pic of the finished project. I do have one concern, the adapter cap seems a little loose and may get a few drops of water in it while deep in the mire. Will a bead of silicone around the dist/adapter base be o.k.? Also, I did not do the advance springs. It looked like my dist had to be torn down completely to get the springs to be accessable.Did I waste my money by not doing that step? Thanks again for the great help...

Re: TeamRush\'s Dist upgrade

The bead of Silicone or even some Weather Strip Adhesive (gorilla snot) for a real moisture seal will work to firm things up.
Remember, you can do what you like with the cap base, because unless you damage it, it stays in place for the duration.
If you notice, the cap has a groove all the way around it that the cap base fits into, and a light bead of dielectric grease will seal that water tight also, and still allow removal with out being a pain in the butt.

If the cap and rotor are the only thing that gets changed...
Don't worry about the springs yet, that is another upgrade, and it isn't required at all if you don't want to.

Get the TFI coil and you should see some real changes in starting, idling and acceleration.

(Roll on power and acceleration will increase with a spring change! Just don't let it detonate, or spark knock)

Now you can jump straight to a CDI ignition without anymore changes other than the CDI module.

It's looking good! Why not Yellow plug wires?

Aaron.

Thanks for the input. I thought yellow wires was just too much. I figured black would off set the yellow. Now if I could get a yellow dist cap I would be in business..Know where they hide? I could turn that cap back in and opt for the yeller one..
Ya know, I have pondered your dilemma about the kamikaze helmets. I have come to the conclusion that when they crash it may not hurt so bad if they were wearing helmets....

Lightly sand that cap, and wipe it down with alcohol, and you can paint it any color you want to.
Just don't get the paint on the plug towers under the boots. The primer or paint may conduct electricity and ground out the spark energy.

You sound like my dad, he says 'Yeller'!

Nice upgrade. I want to compliment you on your picture taking ability. Did you use a digital camera for that? Most of the time, the pictures are really blury and you cant make out what your looking at. This picture is impressive. I know this is about your distributor upgrade, not the picture. Nice job anyway.

I was lucky enough to find a digital camera that was worth a crap.I got a Sony Mavica. The Sony uses floppy discs. None of that small stuff to get lost. Just pop out the disc and put it into A drive and lookie here a digital pic. It really is easy to use this camera also..
