bought a used tach for the rig
It has 4 wires comming from it
red, black, green and white

Green -Tach term. on dist
Red - Positive dash lights
Black - Ground
White - ?

Am I right so far?
Can you help me out?

I always thought it was red is positive, black negative, green ground, white to dist. But, I don't know, I do it by engine sound..

you saying red to the pos dash lights
and black to neg. dash lights?

You are right on the colors so far. White is the aux. dimmer (dash/rheostat) wire. So just hook it up to the dimmer swith or a constant 12volt for luminescence.

I looked at the Sun tach in my Jeep and the Auto Meter in my Camaro last night and here's how both were wired:

Green - Tach signal from tach terminal or negative side of coil
Black - Ground
Red - Power from fusebox, only on when key is on
White - Lights wired to terminal on fusebox which only has power when the lights are on
