What t-case would be in an 89 6lug 1/2ton? And which one would be in a 91 8lug 3/4ton? I have a friend that had a th400 built and put in to his 89 chevy. Now that my tranny took a sh!t on me, I don't feel like spending 3k to rebuild the 4l80e, so I was going to buy this th400. He says its ready to bolt up to my motor im just wondering if it will bolt up to my t-case?

3k for a rebuild? REALLY? It looks like i better start doing some research 'cause I'm gonna need one.
I see books and manuals available for tranny re-builds. Anybody here ever done one?

I don't really care about O/D, I rarely ever use it specially when I run 38's. I think the th400 will be a stronger tranny for running bigger tires and 4wheeling.

I can pick up this th400 for $500, it only has about 500 miles on it since it was rebuilt. The guy rolled his truck thats why he is getting rid of it. Which one do you think will hold up better offroad? How much would you want for one of your 4l80es?

Well I need both of mine so they are not for sale but I would personally go with the 4l80e... I run one in my truck and it has lasted for 173k miles, 35k of which have been with me, and up to that was the previous owner who pulled a 5th wheel twice a month...

Can you really get a 4l80e for under $800? What else would i need to put that in my 1/2 ton instead of getting me 4l60E POS rebuilt? Saying a rebuild would cost me around 1200, do you think i could get a tranny shop to install the 4l80e for $400? I hate the 60, and would really like having the piece of mind of the stronger tranny, because i do do some towing. Thanks!

EDIT:
just checked e-bay, all the new ones are 800-1000, but with core deposits around 350-450. Had you seen better deals? What would it cost me to get a distroyed one at a junk yard and send that in for a core? Anyone have a fried one they want to send me?

You shoudn't ever run OD with that big a tire unless you've got the gears. If you go with the th400 you will need a new adapter plate to go to yer tcase, you may need the coupler also depending on what spline th400 you get, Did it come out of a 4x4? If not it could be to short of a tail shaft on it. Ebay sounds like the way to go. But get some gears or don't use over drive, that eats em up.
