I am not sure if major or minor need some insight. When i shift my electronic tcase into 4x4 the light comes on and i hear the motor run but the front end doesnt engage. Now when i put into low range the motor turns again ant the tcase goes into low range. My question is why doesnt four wheel drive work but the low range works without engaging the front diff ??

What vehicle?
Which transfer case?
Which front end?

If it has auto hubs they are most likly broke. Or if it has the actuator vacume thing that could be messed up.

Other than that, your front d-shaft or axle is busted
