Hi Robert -
The reason that I did the conversion was because I started out with a complete Swift GT engine conversion before 1600 16 valves were produced. I wired the vehicle for the GT fuel injection and I had to modify the firewall for the distributor. When the 1600 16 valve became available, I wanted to use the larger cc motor for a power upgrade. There was a huge power increase from the Swift GT, but there are no benefits over the 1600 16 valve. The valves and chambers are the same size but the throttle body and MAF are smaller in diameter. I had to use a 125 tooth timing belt from an Acura and machine an 8 degree off-set crank key to achieve proper cam timing. I also had to port the oil return holes to keep the small volume valve cover from filling with oil which would then draw into the intake at high RPM's. Many modifications such as flat-topped forged pistons, custom ground cam shafts, porting, and a re-mapped ECM, bored throttle body, mass airflow sensor, and alot of money spent to make the same power as a stock 1600 16 valve. The GTI head comes in an '89 to '93 Swift GTI which has a 100HP twin cam 1300. If you would like to see pictures, my vehicle was featured on truckworld-online and the article is titled " A stump-jumping, rock-crawling warrior".
