I had lost the nuts that connect the swy bars to the axle....does anyone know what size they are so when I get out of work I can stop by the hardware store and reconnect my sway bars? I think they are a 1/2in fine thread but Im not sure. Thanx jeep gurus

This isn't the answer you were looking for, but a possible suggestion instead... Why not pick up a set of quick disconnects for your antisway bar, so you never have to mess with the fasteners and the time it takes when you get to where you 'wheel to unfasten them? It is more expensive, but might be worth it... At the very least it'll take the post back to the top... /wwwthreads_images/icons/wink.gif

I just spent a couple of days trying to make some quick disconnects myself. After screwing around and trying to drill my sway bar ends, I drove the Jeep around without the sway bar connected. I am not going to make quick disconnects anymore, I am just going to remove the sway bar completely. I have a Pro-Comp lift which is pretty stiff maybe that is why I can't tell if the bar is on or not. For now it is off.

I have a 4" pro comp, it's pretty beat and saggy now though, and I have removed both trac bars, but since almost getting run off the road by a pickup truck last fall, I keep the sway bar connected except when wheeling. I know it feels fine on the street without it, but if you ever need to do an emergency maneuver, you will see the need for the sway bar - it ain't pretty. believe me if you choose to.

As for sway bar disconnects, I see no need in spending $80 or whatever they get for those things. Remove your lower nuts, pry off the link with a pry bar, grease the bushing good with antiseize or grease, and put it back on. Find / make / steal from a friend / borrow a pry bar / pry tool with the right bends/support points for ease of pry-off, and the 3/4" wrench, and keep it handy. When I remove the lower end, I zip-tie the links up under the fenders with heavy zip ties. I can do both sides in maybe 3 minutes, max.

Done.

Good luck,
Pete
