I've got my T-18 installed and am trying to figure out driveshafts. I'm pretty sure I'm going to need a double cordon for the rear due to the sharp angle. I understand that I need a special yoke for the double cordon. The standard yoke will not work.
Here's my question, The dana 20 I'm using came from the same 1978 J10 I got my T18 from and used a double cordon for the front shaft and a single for the rear. Can I swap the front and rear yokes so I can run a double cordon in the rear vs the front?

Dana 20's used 10 and 26 spline yokes on the front and rear. The only way to know what yours has is to take it apart. The part numbers are the same for front and rear.

It should work, i know it works on dana 300's. You can also use xj 231 front yokes for dana 300's so if dana 20's and dana 300's have the same spline count it will work.

Hey Brad,

You need to climb under that beast and yank them off. I am pretty sure they will swap. If not front to back, then from your other 20. I think I have a D300 yoke laying around somewhere also. Pull them off and let us know what you find. By the way, there aren't any crush sleeves or anything like that on a D20 so just yank them off. You will probably need your cheater bar and something to hold the yoke.

Later,
Tom

The 26 spline dana 20 yoke is the same part number as the front and rear dana 300 yokes. It all comes down to whether or not the spline counts work. If your dana 20 CV yoke has the same spline count as the output shaft you want to put it on, it will work. Just be aware that the dana 20 has both 10 spline and 26 spline output shafts. The dana 300 just had 26 spline output shafts.

Pulled the yokes and they do swap front to rear. So good bit of info if you are looking to swap in a T18 from a J10. Chances are you'll need a double cordon driveshaft in the rear. If so, the front shaft on the J10 I pulled from was running a dbl cordon. You can swap that yoke from the front to the rear for your new set up and save $60 on a new rear dbl cordon yoke.

That may not be true on all J-10 Dana 20's.
My T-18 Dana 20 combo came out of a 1973 J-10, and the rear output is 23 spline and the front output is 10 spline. I can't swap mine. I've asked around (local shops) before and no one could tell me what year(s) Dana 20's came w/ a 23 spline output.

I checked both of my Dana 20's and the 78 J10 D20 had 10 spline front and rear and my 78 CJ Dana 20 had 26 spline front and rear. It's probably a crap shoot on any of them....

You sure you're counting right? Too bad Jeepgod is gone to count it for you.
Got another friend you can borrow fingers to count on to get you over 21?
