Swapping NP203 for NP205 or 208 ???\'s

Well my NP203 is shot and I want to swap it for a better case rather than rebuild it. I've found an NP205 complete with the adapter for my TH350 for $400, no drivelines. I also found a NP208 with 105K on it that was behind a 700R4 for $200. Is it possible to put a NP208 behind a TH350? If so, what is needed? Also, what will I need as far as different yokes and CV for both swaps. My truck is down here at school and both cases are back home so I'm trying to figure it out and get everything together so I can do the whole swap in one day. Thanks for the help.

to install a 208 that used to be with a 700r4 ,on to a 350,
you will need to change the output shaft on the 350,i had
this done about 9 years ago, i think they charged me like
300.00 parts and labor, but it was way cheaper and better than rebuilding the 700r4, you might be able to do the labor yourself, i did not check into what was involved in
the labor part of it, any tranny shop should be able to supply and or convert it for you,

If at all possible, you might want to go with the 205. The 208 is an aluminum case and not the most bullet proof. The 205 should be cast iron and a bit more bullet proof. I have a 208 in my 81 Jimmy behind a TH350, when it goes, I hope I can find a 205 to take its place.

Good Luck,

Jim

That's the swap I went with. The t-case was more money but less in the long run since I didn't have to mess with changing the output shaft. The NP205 works great just waiting for my front driveline to be shortened (hopefully today since we're supposed to get snow tomorrow)! The driveline shop built me a new rear driveline with new yoke for the back and I put a new rear yoke on the t-case to get rid of the conversion joints.
