Howdy,
Well I didn't end up going to Afghanistan or back to Kuwait.
I lucked out and ended up in the Honduras for 6-12 months.
It's pretty nice and warm down here and nobody is shooting at me so I can't complain.

Anyways, there are a ton of Samurais, SJ413s, SJ410s, and LJ 80s here. They even have the Samurais that are currently built in Spain-including brand spankin new LWBs!!!
There are also a lot of Toyota FJ40s, post 83 FJ40s, straight axle Toyota pickups, etc. It sucks that I can't legally buy any of them.

I really miss my Samurais and it's hard not having a private vehicle to drive or tinker with. My brother even bought me a Samurai (#5) after I left. I own a Samurai that I've never even seen!
(sort of a parallel of being a father to a baby you've never seen!)

Keep on Zukin!

Im going to Spain at Easter time for 9 days. I was hoping to bring a few back in my backpack

Maybe you could get to know one of the local zuk owners and spend his money and build his truck for him.

Nothing is keeping you from buying parts though... like a couple of those kick ass grills with blinkers in them or 410 grills and sending them home. OR... a 410 case or two.

Hope you're having a decent time away from home. Be well, Brent

Where you at, the main millitary base, or a remote site .. It was SO nice when I was down there in 94 .. though it was the rainy season, it was amazing how much rain fell in the short rain storms, but was more amazing how it dried up so fast .. I was at a honduran millitary base in San Pedro De Copan for about 4 months, support for the engineers building schools ..

Yep, I would to get some parts (windshield kits, SJ410 cases etc) but I've been told that spare parts around here often have high prices. Now, I've just got to find somebody that's into Samuraris-it shouldn't be to hard.

It appears that most of cars on the roads here originally came from the states and were relocated here when they got older. Have you guys ever seen those mexicans with large caravans of cars being flat towed south in the states? This is where they end up and they sell them for 4X what they paid for them in the states.

I'm at Sato Cano Air Base-the only US base that I'm aware of in the Honduras.

I know about the exercise that you were a part of-it's an annual event called New Horizons. Basically a humanitarian mission in which reservists build schools, wells etc. in Latin America. My job is coordinating the logistical needs of these missions.

Well, thanks for this great topic. We know you are really busy and have lots to do. However....what about digital pictures? Maybe you could make an online photo album of lots of those older Zukis in their "natural setting" down there. There's probably some ones that have been chopped up and modified--or beat up real bad and still usable.
We used to see some of them in Coastal Sonora and some of them had been "torched" so badly for various Mexican mods they were barely recognizable. The Mexican beach cops used 'em to patrol the dunes. They had funky little sirens and flashing lights on them. Looking back, I really wish now I had taken the time to get some formal "police portraits" of them in their "work vehicles." One we sasw had a plastic milk jug wired to the hood for the "gas tank."
A little plastic shipon hose fed the carb.

So, maybe you will run into some Zukis like that--some real beautiful ones and some that will make us all laugh and scratch our heads.

Anyway, there are plenty of people on this Board who could help you find a a place to house the pics. Let us know if you haev time to consider such a time-consuming idea.

And, in the maentime and as always, THANK YOU for serving our Country!

Hey man, I love that place. I have spent 2 6-month tours there at Soto Cano and have been there at least 4 times for training stuff . I ran the Search and Rescue team the last time. Heck, I pass through there at least 2-3 times a year on my way to South America. Just some advise, stay away from the Comayagua women, they are bad news!! Also, when you go to Hedamans (spelling?) stay outta the Jungle juice. It will melt your brain and next thing you know you are on the bar dancing in your underware
Man, I miss that place. Oh, get up to Lake yojoa and do some water skiing and the Falls and do some cliff diving.

One last thing I NEED you to do. Go over to the J-5 shop and tell the secretary there, Iris, that Arturo says hi. She will laugh her head off for sure!!

Later man and have fun!!!!

Yeah Sato-Cano .. I remember how that place was so nice ..

The one I was a part of was called Task Force Socios Unidos, we were all active duty people
... dont know if that was anypart of New Horizon as it was 10 years ago

Art, I've bet you've been there
the village right outside where we had stayed, some of the kids were known as the SF Kids
....

As the camp we stayed in was a SF training camp site we were told

Yeah, right now I'm here on a six month tour and I'm gonna try and extend to make it a full year. I've only been here for a little over a month now but I haven't seen too much of the country. I plan on going on a MWR this upcoming weekend.

I'm trying to stay from the Comayagua women-the aranyas.
There's quite a few nice girls that work at PAE though!

I'll be sure to stop by J-5.
