I have some weird suspension noises when doing off-ramps or going over rough roads - basically, anytime there is significant travel. The suspension clunks, and the axles feel like they hop forwards and backwards (not up and down), especially the front one. It makes the truck handle erratically on rough roads... something that a Jeep of all things should not do.

Stats:
96 XJ, stock springs, Ranch 5000 in front (inc. steering) and loadmaster coilover shocks in back. New axle halfshaft in front (although that didn't fix it, it fixed a badly worn Ujoint).

I can't find any play in the driveshaft U-joints when the truck is on a lift, nor any suspension arm play. Of course, this is with the suspension at full droop. All 4 shocks check good doing the corner-bounce test.

Ideas?

Jeeps, or any vehicle with an SFA will make "unexpected" moves on washboard. Check your upper and lower control arm bushings at the front axle and at unibody mounting points. Track bar controls side to side movement of front axle.
