I removed the gas tank out of my 72 scout and when I took the fuel filter and float out I found half an inch of this thick "stuff" at the bottom. It is dark red or black and has a texture similar to that of caramel, in that is thick and sticky, and it will eventually dry out after a few days if it not mixed with gas. Does anyone know what this is?
