stranger\'s first impressions on your trucks.

Sorry. I deliver pizza with my zuk, and I get an awful lot of these.

Most common ones are:

"What the heck is that thing!?"
"What model of Suzuki is that?!"
"That's a Sidekick?!"

Anyone else get stuff like this?

Re: stranger\'s first impressions on your trucks.

yeah, but i think it's the white, gray, black, camofluaged paint too! i pulled a jeep wrangler out on the trails- the driver was around his early 20's & had a very long jaw! but he had to ask me, "what kind of car is that?" "who makes it?" "where can i get one?" on the street you have your normal poser's, it's a whole different ballgame offroad isn't it! i never see a jeep trying to follow me...hummmm wonder why? IT'S A SIDEKICK & YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND KINDA THING! is what my bumper sticker ought to say.

Got that alot! Especially with more modifications, came more questions.
Now I've got my X-90. Believe it or not, people even call it a "Jeep" ??

With only about 7 thousand of them in the US, they seem rare, but I so see a few every now and then. Most people ask, "Is it a tracker", if they have any clue whatsoever.

Usually a "wow, what is that?" usually followed by a "Why?".same old, same old I guess. Some people just don't understand.

I one I get alot is "Where's the other half of your truck?" I also get alot of dirty lots from people when it's all covered in mud. They seem to think I was up to no good just because it's muddy.

Re: stranger\'s first impressions on your trucks.

Slightly off topic...

When people spot my Pinzgauer (click here for a description), the typical responses are:

"Where did you get that Jeep?" (perhaps Murph's "Jeep, its' whats for dinner" sticker confuses them...)

"Is that a Hummer?" (Yeah, like when did they give Hummers swing axle suspension, shrink them by a third in size, make them cab-over and make them so they could fit between trees spaced 5 feet apart?)

"Is that thing/Jeep Amphibious?" (Okay, it sorta looks like it could float, but it can't.)

The best you can do is smile and, if they really look interested, tell them about your truck.

BTW, this thread makes me think that I better get off my fat @SS and get the Ack-mobile reassembled and back on the trails!

Curious onlooker.
Hey, aren't those jeeps tipsy, they must flip over a lot
Zook owner.
Yeah, they are real bad at doing that, 5 minutes after I parked the car it fliped
in the parking lot.

I know I butchered it though, the wording was priceless.

Re: stranger\'s first impressions on your trucks.

I get lots of funny looks. I had a car load of real freeks looking at my Zuke and laughing. I could not tell if any of the five were male or female. Aside from that I mostly get questions like What kind of jeep is that? or Is that your camping buggy? But latley I have been getting my favorite. "Is that thing good on gas?"

Re: stranger\'s first impressions on your trucks.

Most of the time I get a look of disgust when I show up for a trail ride with the uninitiated .Once its on the trail they all want to know how much it cost to build and where they can get one .

Re: stranger\'s first impressions on your trucks.

I get tons of stares on the road. Sitting in town at traffic lights can sometimes be an uneasy situation. You hear the people in the car next to you talking about it, but not directly to you. It's funny when you're next to a Jeep and the guy is staring at your rig but says nothing.

I drove the Tracker from Augusta,GA to Tampa, FL and back this past week...what a ride. I constantly had people rubber-necking, one guy in an explorer even went so far as to roll the window down and say "That thing is bad-ass!"
Image

Some of the guys in Tampa convinced me to take it to the local car show...my brother-in-law rode with me. He was laughing, saying that he felt tempted to start waving at the people staring at the Tracker.

I get alot of "What is it?" questions, alot of "Are those real beadlocks?", followed by "Aren't those illegal?"

I even got this one..."What is that, a cut up Wrangler?"

I even had someone ask me if the snorkel was a light.

The weirdest one to date was here in town. I was stuck in traffic in front of Home Depot and waiting for traffic to move. A flash to my right caught my attention. A car was pulling out of Home Depot...looked like the Mother was driving, with teenage girls in the car, one riding shotgun, two in the rear seat. The girl riding shotgun was taking pictures of the Tracker!
Image
When I looked at the girl she hurridly put away the camera. Funny stuff.

I would be curious to know what all the people I catch staring as I travel down the road are thinking...

Re: stranger\'s first impressions on your trucks.

Well I have a lot more substantial lift with moderate sized tires, and on a sammi that looks nice. Before without the lift I would get picked on a lot, hell now people call it big bird lol But I got a lot more positive responses after I lifted it, and I have only had like 2 people ever wanna buy it on the spot... oh also the " that thing is a cereal box on wheels" or " that thing is so narrow the wind could tip it over" yatta yatta yatta

Re: stranger\'s first impressions on your trucks.

They dont say much until they see it in action. I m the smallest in the group of trucks I go wheeling with.I find it funny that Im running 34 inch tires. All the rest of the trucks are running 36,38,40,42s and I have no problems showing the big guys up.Thats when the say stuff like"what the f***, I spent all that money" or " Im selling my 42s and buying a zuk".

Re: stranger\'s first impressions on your trucks.

Well, most call it a Jeep first off, but I get mad at them when they do that. I kindly explain that its not a Jeep and Im proud. After that they don't know whether to call it a truck or what, so they say "your thing". "You driving your....Thing tonight?"
One time a real nice guy I wheel with (TJ driver) said "Kevin, you sure theres not a Jeep under that sheetmetal?"
