I've got the idle jet blue's in my 90yj inline6 I've been told to just get rid of this carb but i'm low on funds for a while. just wondering if anyone knows of an upgrade for the stock idle jets, or has anyone drilled out the jets befor?
I've never done any mod's to a carb befor, I've been told that it's this fix is easy. Is this true?

What kind of adjustments have you done to yours in the past? I've taken the idle jests out and did a half ass cleaning job (15 min job) and it made a big differance. so i'm thinking that if I clean it realy well with proper cleaner and then adjust the carb maybe i can get her to run a little nicer till i can replace it.

Definitly check out the sites recommended by sas87yj. They are very helpful and the 4.2 engine can run smoothly with the bbd carb...it just takes a while and some fiddling. This board has tons of helpful info on these carbs. The MPI would be the ultimate but that darn budget!

it could help to connect the sol-vac. egr valve, cto valve and temp sensor are all key players. check these too! there are two air-fuel mixture screws, one for each barrel. you could mess with these also. i am not too lucky with carbs!/wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif

Take the carb off the manifold, take the top off the carb, remove the fuel inlet (needle and seat) to remove the float and blast out all passages with aerosol carb cleaner. You can remove the idle mixture screws as well and shoot carb cleaner thru those passages, but mostly clean out the float bowl to prevent recurring blockages, and blast out the passages in the bottom of the float bowl.

Tighten all bolts on the intake manifold to eliminate any vacuum leaks. Also consider unplugging the stepper motor (if legal in your area) and adjusting idle mixture screws by hand using a vacuum gauge for peak lean vacuum.

You might want to consider swapping in a Motorcraft 2100 carb. They idle really well. Need a cheap adaptor plate, open element air cleaner and some work on the throttle linkage. Get one from a 304 amc or 302 ford.
