My 1986 258 is still leaking after replacing the rear main seal, oil pan gasket with a one piece unit, and putting on an aluminum valve cover with a rubber gasket. The oil is coming from the rear of the engine and is too much to ignore. Any ideas?

have you looked at the oil pressure gauge sending unit? It's back there.

You may try getting it steam cleaned, it makes it allot easier to see where the oil is coming from. It was recommended to me once, but I'm a big cheap skate and decided to live with it (the oil leak).

is your crankcase vent and PVC systems working properly?
how many miles on your engine? if you have alot of blow-by you will never get all the leaks to quit [sad] with the engine running, pull your dipstick then oil filler cap one at a time and try to tell if air is blowing out very much.

Not sure if this is worthwhile for help, but is it possible the front oil seal on your transmission is the culprit?

I just went through this, the oil sending tube only leaked at mid to high idle (highway speeds). When at idle, no apparent leak was visible. Kick the high idle on and take a look.

Did you drop the tranny and check the rear crankshaft seal.
thats where mine was leaking from, and like yours, it was alot.
