Does anybody know where to get a "super Strong Idler Arm"? My Jimmy eats them up every couple of hundred miles of off-roading. When they wear out the right front wheel points where it wants to, especially on rough uphill climbs. The wheels each may point in or at times the right will point 45 degrees to the left while the right is straight. Everyone thinks I have broken a tie rod. I have tried Auto Zone & OEM idler arms.

Unfortunately the idler arms are the weakest points on an IFS system. Have you tried Moog parts at all? They seem to do a better job of reconstructing the parts to be stronger.

There's got to be a reason, though that you're having these problems. do you have a lift kit in there with the stock steering? If so you'll probably need some sort of drop bracket for the pitman arm to put the steering back to its normal (relatively) geometry. If you haven't this will cause undue stress on the steering all the time.

I was thinking of the possiblity of taking a Toyota idler arm and making it work. The one on the Toys look MUCH stronger than the chincy one on the Chevy, IMHO.

Re: Stering Idler Arm

I only have a 3"body lift. The torsion bars have been tightened for about 1 " of lift. I have replaced all tie-rod ends and the ball joints. The only moving part that hasn't been replaced is the pitman arm.
Do you have an address for MOOG or their retailer? I can't find any reference on the WEB.
Thanks,
Clint

Re: Stering Idler Arm

you can get MOOG from NAPA,Discount and Auto Zone but
you have to ask for it. If you are using wheels with a lot of
negitive offset it can cause wear problems. When you replace
the idler you also need to do the pitman arm at the same time
