I have a 78 cj-5 with manual steering and I am just exploring my options on replacing or rebuilding my steering gear.How difficult is it to rebuild a manual steering box?Does anyone have any information(Haynes,Chiltons)on this type of rebuild?

My manual steering box recently bit the dirt on me. After seeing how much a replacement cost(about $180), I decided to swap over to power steering. I got the whole setup out of an 82 Wagoneer for $120 including: Power steering gear,pump,bracket,pitman arm,and shaft. I had to cut both shafts and put the power steering end on the manual shaft, I also had to buy new hoses that fit the CJ, other than that it is basically bolt on. Good Luck!
