Among my large list of to-do's for the truck over the next 2 weeks, the first thing is the steering.

Got everything torn out:

A built a new axle bumper!

So, didn't get started till after 3pm since I had real work to do... But I get all day tomorrow and Sunday to work on it so should have some nice progress pics tomorrow evening.

Umm, I'm using my draglink, but not my tie rod, but I'm keepign it as a spare just in case something dies...

I'm not going high-steer, not until I have a chance to fabricate new knuckles. The 60 knuckles are pretty weak at the top kingpin location and hydro steering with hi-steer = broken knuckles. And I'm not paying $600 for aftermarket cast knuckles.

I'm doing my own hydro-assist setup using this:

Im guessing al this steering stuff is so you can still handle the tires.

I know you want the biggest baddest over built rig but theres gota be point we you say hell with it tear the fenders of and devote it to trails and tow it to the dirt, but that brings up another thing, it is the tow rig. think youve wonderd in the wrong direction and better get your hands on cummins before to long, and like 50' flat bed so you can haul the willys and chevy

This is kinda off the subject but Willys, How do you like your "rope" winch wire or whatever its called. I have been thinking about getting it for mine cause ive have a few problems with my cable on my winch.

I love it! Theres nothing like having 115 feet of cable spooled out and you can cary it like it's nothing... And it spools in super easy compared to steel and doesn't end up in a big knot.

Last time at Hollister I had my truck on the side of Truck Hill facing up hill, winch hooked to an easy 8k pound ford on 44's and I drug him sideways up Truck Hill using my winch and the rope. It was pulling my truck sideways down the hill and his truck sideways up the hill... Rope never had a problem.

Hey Jason why not a Axle trust support thing? Like the Jeep guys do? Basically a skid so the bottom of the diff-case doesn't drag and catch on rocks.

Sounds like you need to hit the gym. Been steering 38's with out assist for 5.5 years on a worn out stock system. Steer 42" firestone non directionals on a duece and a half with out assist since 97. That is a true pain in the buttocks though. Works your arms really good.

Yeah but the way my box was rebuilt there is no power assist without the ram... As in manual steering... That doesn't work too well on a late model truck that is geared for quick steering response and such. The truck will not steer at all under 2-3 mph... Whereas with the old ram I could at least steer sitting still, but not as good as I would like. With this it should be 1 finger steering even when crossed up and tires wedged under things, can't wait to hear my knuckles break off the axle!

No, I'm the only one with the problem. And my box is already in a box and getting shipped back to Matt Monday. I'm not sending it back because of that though, just because everything will be brand new but that, so I want it all clean and pretty inside before I turn the new system on, metal shavings and dirt going through my new $300 pump would make me cry.
