I just put a new solenoid in my 86 CJ7, 258 5 speed last night. The problem is when I go to shut off the motor it will not shut off. I disconnected the red wire on the (I) post on the solenoid and now it works fine. But what is this red wire for? Thanks RCJ7

the wire you are refering to is most likly the startup coil wire, its purpose is to feed full battery voltage to the coil during startup, either you put it in the wrong place or the solenoid you have is not working correctly.

Then what is the other wire on the other post for?

I believe it's the wire that provides the swticher, within the ignition module, it's voltage.
