Spring pack centering pins

I was wondering if I could use some grade 8 bolts as new centering pins. I want to replace all the old ones in my leaf packs when I do the axle swap next weekend.

I went to the hardware store and got a bunch of allen bolts that are the same size. Anybody got any comments on this??

Thanks as usual!!

i can't think of any reason grade 8 bolts/nuts would not work. (other than the bolt heads or nuts must fit into the holes in the spring pearchs and U-bolt brackets)
i just did a add-a-leaf myself, with what i'd call leaf spring upgrades, checkout http://www.geocities.com/yj3qtr_ton/addleaf.html

i have actually broken a couple of the bolts i used to do this with..i tried a case hardened bolt...broke it... grade 8...broke it... but the grade 5 didn't get sheared like the others

I ve been been using grade 5 and 8 bolts for years in everything, cars, trucks, etc Just get a bolt that is a snug fit in the holes in the spring, and if the head it to large for the spring perch, grind it round and to size with a bench grinder,do it slow as not to heat it up to much.I drill the small holes out in car springs a lot of times to accept a 3/8 bolt.just more sturdy..And always retighten the U bolts after first day of driving.Double nutting
the center bolts isnt a bad idea either to keep them from loosening up
