So a buddy and I are at the tail end of parting out the totaled '96 S-10 Blazer that has donated its VORTEC 4.3L to be put into my CJ5.

As far as I know the Transfer Case is a NP231. Can someone tell me how to identify the NP231. My buddy dropped the tranny and the xc out and then had the rest of the rig towed away and we haven't had a chance to take a look at it yet.

If it is a NP231 are there any fundemental differences between it and the ones that can be found in various Jeeps?

Thanks

Well I know it is a NP231.. I got my 4.3 from a 89 s-10 Blazer for my YJ..
There should be a round tag on the back of it right next to the rear output shaft.

It's a 231 but I think it has a five bolt pattern instead of the six bolt pattern used in the jeeps.

So it turns out that after I had my dad take a look at it (it is at my parents house) that it is actually a NP233C. This is how he reported it to me via email:

"First I had to brush off some snow and then wipe off the tag. The top of the tag has the words "New Process Gear". Next to "Model" was 233 C."

I think that is sorta interesting. Now I just gotta see if I can sell this thing for a few bucks some where. I figured I would post it on the Blazer board and here on the Boeing Intranet for now. Any other ideas where to post it?

Thanks

I am not sure on the bolt pattern issue but the NP233 is just a NP231 with electric shift instead of a lever. I would still be good for parts and may eveny be easy to converted to mechanical shift.
