i can't imagine going somewhere where you don't have to worry about leaving paint on the bark of the trees let alone not being able to see one for miles.

did you get hung up on your frame anywhere? that is one long truck. i know i'd get it hung up on the frame.

Oh yeah, the t-case skid plate has seen better days, and the frame rails, right below the front seats, are nice and shiny where I have rubbed all day long on it. On that pic where I'm flexed out on the rut, the rear diff drug about 4 feet, and dug about a 6" deep by 6" wide trench through the very hard dirt

. Man, can't wait for those springs so I can get my 39.50's on there

haha, you're crazy.

i won't even take my truck off a gravel road until i make a skidplate. that np208 looks like an anchor under there.

i'm kind of surprised you have peeled off your differential cover yet..

just wait, now that i said that you'll look under there and find a leak. haha.

you need to get a flat panel fiberglass topper for that truck, it'd look awesome then with the big tires.

Hmm, I knew I should have saved the box that the cut-outs came in. Oh well, I'll get them off nice and clean and send them too you. I would put the flares on now, but I think it would look kinda funny with 5" of extra flare sticking out when the tires are already 2" inside the stock ones

i actually think that looks better than the white fiberglass flat panel topper i had envisioned.

i do have to make fun of whoever sprayed just part of the driver front tire with tire treatment.

i need to plant myself a money tree.

Well, I like it cause I can keep my tools out of my backseat during the day with some sense of security, and I can roll the sides up which makes access to the sides and front of the bed like 100 times easier than a shell. Plus when off road, the rolled up sides gives it that safari look and gives me much better vision than a solid shell would.

yeah.

I like your pseudo-security. It's kind of funny because my uncle has had his Jeep broken into three times. Every time they cut the back window out and crawl through the back but he never locks his doors anyway.

That's why I don't run with a topper unless I'm hauling something that needs one. I don't like not being able to see. This is the primary reason why 99% of the time I run without a tailgate.

Well, only thing I really meant by it, is that it cuts down on people seeing whats in there. If they want the stuff they just have to un-snap it from the bed rails and roll a side up and help themselves. The thing is, only time I leave my truck un-attended with tools is one of those emergency trips to home depot or something, and every employee there knows my truck and half of them are always on break out front and they watch my truck for me

. Anyway, once I get my trailer it won't matter, but for now it will help a bit.

hmmmm yeah a skid plate under the transfercase would be nice, one time I caught mine on just the right sized rock, that rolled when it caught and fliped it up and lifted the truck. I jumped out to see what the heck happend and this big rock was kissn the tranfercase. I thought for sure I was toast. only thing I could do was keep going and roll the tranvercase of it.

and yeah I drug my rear end few times peeled the cover back and hit it back flush with hammer it dont look perty but it does the job well kinda seeps some

I wonder if there would be any cooling issues for a daily driver if you protected the whole underside. I mean a plate that protects everything from the front x member to the rear of the gas tank with strategic cuts here and there for humps/drive shafts/cooling fins/access holes. A couple of years ago we had a horrible tornado season and I wound up getting to keep (I asked the city so it's legal) a bunch of the downed road signs. Many of those signs were those huge green ones made from just under 1/4 inch alumnium (I don't know the thickness, but it's pretty thick). I've never thought about making them skidplates, but now I'm thinking about it. Sounds like a fun project.

Yeah, once the conversion is done on the truck, I am taking the stock skidplate off the t-case and making a big long one under the t-case and tranny with a notch for the driveshaft to go through. My biggest fear isnt the t-case, but the tranny pan. Don't need any rocks going up and crushing the valve body
Image
. Also going to weld a plate on the bottom of the rear diff to make it smooth and build a rock guard for the front and rear diff covers.

I was curois to ask this question (after seeing the ford in 4wheeler with like 3" travle and a flexy frame), but how ofthen do these looooong trucks break the frame or bend it?

And how much are those brush guards? I didn'r see a price, must be high!
