How many here have swapped out the ttb front for a d44 solid or d60 solid?
Im planning on doing this soon, mid Summer..After I finish another rig.......
Im contemplating on using coils or leafs, and looking for info on what you have done, heard.......
This is for an 80 Bronco, Looking to run the same tire combo i have now, 44" Boggers.....
I have a 14 bolt rear.....
Thanks,Chad

forget that wimpy dana 60 sh!t, and put in a 2.5ton Rockwell with Air-Ride suspension

now THAT would be one helluva setup and you even get good driveshaft angles. seriously though, if it's just a toy you're building i'd actually consider a leaf-sprung rockwell, they are cheaper than dana 60's and you can actually afford to replace parts on em, though you'd never have to

Daniel over at www.usa6x6.com will hook you up with anything you need to do this... he floats around this BBS sometimes
also memphis eqpt and boyce eqpt can hook you up with anything... some day i'm going to build a super mega big block truck with rockwells and tractor tires, the only way to go

who is kurt and what is his setup? you got any more of the pics that used to be on your webpage? so you had a 460, 44" boggers, and the ttb d44 and it never broke? that is awesome, i'm staying with the d44 though i'm going with a leaf sprung d44hd like the late-70's f250's had. and a 10.25" FF rear with discs and matching 8 lug pattern, hopefully. tires will be, well, big

that is plan A, plan B is to leave the bronco as-is and build a dedicated bogger/crawler, but i'm still undecided. good luck, and have fun (as you always do).

by the way, what lift/cutout combo were you running on the 80 to fit the 44's? i wanna cut out my fenders this summer but need figure out if i'm going to lift it any more. destination is 40" hawgs or swampers and i already have 6" susp.

Nice pics The Chad, I have seen your rig in pics before, I think with Kurt. So, are you going to be at the Long Beach run this weekend? Kurt will be there. He loves when we drool over his setup. BTW, Shilo is the notorious K.L. Would give you a URL to his site, but that would be too easy. Let's just say if I'm right, as a clue, he has appeared in a recent 4wheeler pic. Gotta be him after that post talking up pirate4x4,

Dude, do a good seach at Pirate. The Rockwells aren't all they are cracked up to be. People break shafts more than you'd think, and arguably more often than a D60 front w/35 spline stubs. This is only my understanding. Plus the Rockwells are heavy and I *personally* do NOT like the pinion brake idea. Many people report overheating problems.

Bottom line is that the Rockwell vs D60 debate has become just like EFI vs carb, leafs vs coils and all that. Some people love them, some people don't think they're that great. All I'm saying is they're not the be-all-end-all that you might first believe when you see one. My .02

I have a drawer full of pictures through the years, but now I have a digital camera....
I need a scanner to load all these old wheelin pics on my computer, I just got this thing last summer......

The only thing I broke in the ttb, was alot of bearings......
I did replace one axle, the splines were toast, did that when I opened it up for the 456's and trac lock......

I run a 6" superlift, with 8" coils up front, and the 3" body, with cutout whackers you can run the 44's, but yeah theyll rub here and there...
But fun as heck.......

did a quick search over there, just saw people saying how cool a rockwell setup is. i guess any dummy behind the wheel can break anything but i've never heard of one breaking first hand. those brakes slow down 66" monster truck tires pretty fast, dont see a problem there. yes they are heavy, but in a good place (down LOW) below the center of gravity. you might have heard some bad things but i dont really trust those wise-asses over at POR anyway... all they know how to do is post a picture of the "gay freedom rainbow" to anything that is different than what they have. those are stout axles that i've heard nothing but good things about, and they will whoop even a 35 spline d60, especially in knuckle, housing, and gear strength. plus the rockwell wont make you sell the house, is wider, can steer behind the axle, wont dent a diff cover, and is already geared for JUMBO meats

why do you think you bought the wrong kind of truck for it? You can buy bent axle beams for the front yielding 6" lift, and you can buy big fenders from autofab to allow wheel travel. That's as good as you're going to get as far as simple bolt-on desert racing stuff. Plus you have good weight distribution. You wont win the next baja 500 but it would take a beating in that form. In fact, i watched some race sponsored by Tecate awhile back and in the amateur (or whatever its called) class there was a guy racing a late-model bronco!
