I'm looking to buy a small compressor. Not having a garage and dragging a big compressor in and out of the basement doesn't excite me. I would,at the most be running a rachet and maybe die grinder. Would a small one like harbor freight has (2HP/2.64 gal/110 psi) for 80 bucks work for this kinda thing? I'm sure craftsman and CH would have something in this size too. Thanks. Jim

My compressor is in my basement and I just haul the hose out to my driveway when I need airtools out there. I am thinking of doing some plumbing like wildweasel mentioned to get it up to the front of the house, but if I drag my feet enough on doing that maybe I will get a garage and then I can put the whole compressor out there.

Not really what you want to hear but I think it would be a waste of money.

I rent in an apartment building and take care of the grounds , ect . I have a huge air compressor in the basement , pumbed outside and do almost all of my work outside . A garage would be a luxury here , but for now it works .

I have a CH unit, electric, upright, about 26 gallon tank. I cant find the model on their site at the moment, but I got it a Walmart a couple years back. It generally does the job for what I need, though it runs out of pressure too quickly for lots of impact wrenching or drill type usage.

Jim, I have a decent sized compressor that is pretty old and needs a bit of tinkering but it works... you want it... come and get it... or I can throw it in the Ford for some gas/grub money when I come down to get the roached motor from ya.

Jim, some air tools consume or require more air than others. Drill, cut-off tools suck it right up. I think it will reach a point where it just can't keep up with the demand....

Hypotheticaly, even if it did satisfy your needs now, odds on that you'll find yourself using it more and more and will outgrow it soon....

I would get the biggest unit I could possibly afford to allow for growth.......

That's not a bad compressor , looked closely at buying one until I found the old dinosaur I have now . Personally, I'd take the dinosaur any day over the new one , I hear now they have reliability issues with the pumps . It may be just some rare cases , but I've heard of more than one of these taking the proverbial dump and no warranty help . My old Speed Air is pushing 40+ years , no sign of wear or trouble . Best bet would be to find an old style heavy Champion , they were made in my home town and the quality is unbelievable . There are factories around here still running original units with nothing more than oil changes , some to the tune of 60 years..
