Has any one ever swapped a SM 456 into a YJ? Was it a big deal? Are there transition pieces available?

I have a four cyl. and the tranny is loosing it synchro's. I would like the low 1st gear and with oversize tires the overdrive in my stock tranny is all but useless.

What does it drive like now? Do you like the performance?

Ive never seen one swapped into a YJ, but ive seen a lot of 465's. You'll love the granny gear. Yes parts are available, in fact they still make that tranny. It will, however, shift like a truck. Well it is a truck tranny afterall. There was an article somewhere about swaping a 420 into a 4 banger YJ somewhere I think on the 4 bangers united page should be pretty similar.

I put one in my CJ7, but I put in a 350 at the same time. I've got 3.07 gears and 33 inch tires, works really well for what I do. I went to A/A for the adapter, with the trany (12") and the adapter (3.5") it worked out really well(stock was 15.1"). I don't know what else to say, if you need more info, give me a holler.
