91 blazer 4x4 auto with a lot of options and is in good shape in and out except for the engine. The owners just replaced the entire front 4 wheel drive system including shafts/cv etc before it locked up. Here is what they told me "During this past cold winter, the car was being warmed up. Must have been low on oil/leak we do not know, but the engine stopped and never turned over again." I can get it for around $850 do you think it is worth the time and money. I am not a car whiz, but I have plenty of people to work with me that are. Any ideas please? Thanks Nick

If your "good shape in and out" includes an absence of rust in Ohio, I'd jump all over at that price. If everything else works and it's not a rust bucket, you could put a crate engine in it and still be in good shape in terms of acquisition costs.
YMMV.

BUY, BUY, BUY! Lets see, $850 plus maybe $1500 for a complete remanned 4.3L= $2350 in a vehicle that books for like $4000-$6000!

The other option would be (assuming everything else is in great shape) to go to the parts yard and grab the engine out of a smashed S truck. You can pick one up relatively inexpensively and chances are it'll last quite a while with decent maintenance... /wwwthreads_images/icons/crazy.gif
