I am considering making some half doors from scratch, out of aluminum diamond plate. I can't see the 400-500 asking prices for the wrangler halves. I just want them for wheelin anyway. Has anyone done this? patterns? Pics? Don't want to reinvent the door you know../wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif .I mean wheel. Ken

I am planning the same thing. Last year I rebuilt my harddoors on the cheap and looked at just how easy it would be to do. I'm planning on using a template made from a stock Hard door. Then I can take transfer the pattern and have a metal shop plasma cut the material. Then I'll reinforce the inside of the door with a crashbar and a small frame and arm rest. It should be very, very easy to do. The aluminum cost will vary if you want stock diamond tred or bright aluminum. A thicker material will also drive up the cost as weight is a variable in the cost.

Larry, Keep me informed on yours and how the turn out. I was thinking of using 1/4 plate, so I wouldn't need frame and spliting some heater hose to line the top edge, buying some latches. Here, I can get diamond for about 2.00 a pound for smaller pieces. KEn

1/8" brite treadplate runs around $110 for a 4 x 8 sheet. That should be plenty heavy enough for doors. 1/4" is around $200 for a same size sheet. Steve
