shifter indicator question

hey all,

My girlfriends orange needle in her 1997 explorer isn't moving when you shift into a gear. How is this adjusted or repaired? Thanks.

I think there is a small cable that attached to the column. Take the plastic cover off the column and see if it's broken where it clips on the column. You could always go to Ford for an exploded view of the column if you want to see exactly how it's supposed to go.

Yep. What he said.
You'll have to pull the column apart to get at it.

It's a very small gauge wire that runs in a plastic sleeve.
There's also an adjustment to center the pointer on the proper gear deliniation.
