First off, I`d like to thank the PO for installing new brakes in the back of the jeep- very kind of him/her/it. Also kind of him to use locktite on the adjustment star, and insert them backwards...very cute.
And thank you again for putting those shiney chrome covers over the front locking hubs...and useing liquid nail caulk to hold them on.....argh!

well- that said, i finally got around to pulling the rear drums- other than the stars being glued and in backwards-everything else looked remarkably good-someone did a brake job not to long ago, an I thank them.

Ive discovered that you CAN remove the front drums without removeing the locking hubs, although now Im not sure if mine are original, or something else- these suckers are huge, with 6 bolts holding them into the sleeve, and each bolt has a lock style tab bent over it...matters not- it ALL is gonna come off an get the grease treatment. Every other hub on a jeep Ive laid into used little bolts, or hexy head screws...this is big tough stuff.

while its all off, does anyone-now or in the future, think they needs pictures of all this? I`ll have it all apart-
hollar within the next coupla a days if you do, be glad to takem an store them, or post them up.

Good luck with your project Ed. Arn't POs great. Liquid nails to hold on the after market hub covers. Thats right up there on the knothead scale. The locktite on the brakes is good too. Ive got/had beer and soup cans and hose clamps on mine by a PO for a "permanent" fix on the exhaust pipes. Gota love em.

It's amazing- everybody on this board seems to know what quality work is, but everybody who owned these things before was dumber than a stump. Oh, well. I guess their rigs got so far gone they couldn't duct tape 'em no more so they sold 'em to US.

bahhh- I look at it as "work arounds". Its a discovery process. I can almost understand why someone would glue the stars- the back breaks were probably self adjusting so much it locked one-just a guess. And glueing down the shiney front hub covers? probably to keep them on because the hub just quite dont fit unless you bang it.

Dad call`ed em quicky fixs- what one does to make something work when the experience lacks- you do what ya gotta do. shoot, were all guilty of that at one time or another-
admit it....and all will be well.

Lizzard- i`ll be more than happy to do a photo list on it- but the tools Im useing now wont be shown, or accepted as what "should be used"- My 10 an 20lb sledge hammers are comeing in mighty handy- and the cold chisel cuts well.
I might have to break out the socket set though, the metal on some of these bolts looks hard still. this is propably better listed as a "non-professional method of destroying things that need fixin weather they like it or not".

windshields out.....saved the gasket- anyone need 10 million little chunks of sharp glass? I love my hammer.

ah, I found my problem child- the last drum to be taken(beaten with extreme malice and force) off produced soft brake shoes, and a completely blown out wheel cylinder-- must have been this way a long, long time, the brakes shoes feel like jello.
Theres fibers everywhere-never seen one that far gone, ever.
one out of four aint bad- I was expecting 4 out of 4 being bad myself.

Lizzard, that`ll be the one I`ll do the pics on.
