Seat bolt was cut off, can\'t remove it. Help?

My buddy bought some fancy new bestop seats for his '93 YJ, which means I take take his old stock adjustable seats and swap them into my '88. (My seats are tired and don't have an adjustable back).

Anyway, he had to drill the top off of one bolt to get the driver's seat off (he stripped the hex-head). I took the seat, turned it upside down and tried to take an EZ Out to it. I ended up breaking the EZ out in the bolt... :(

I have hence mangled the bolt area to death, and don't think I can ever get the bolt out. Any ideas? The EZ Out is still in the bolt (recessed), which makes drilling VERY hard. I've destoryed at least 3 bits (My patience wasn't helped by the crazy *ss heat wave we're having).

Should I put the seat in w/o one of the rear bolts (3 instead of 4 total bolts)? Do you think that's safe, cause the bolts are pretty thin looking?

I apperciate any help you guys might have to offer.

Could you weld the seat in? Just a thought, that is probably what I would do.

91 YJ swaped in 4.0L 2 inch lift.

That idea isn't half-bad. I am w/o a means to weld though. Though I might be able to dig up SOMEBODY w/ it.

Thanks for the thought,

any chance you could drill a new hole an inch or so away, thru the seat bracket and into the seat frame, and just use a good old fashioned nut and bolt?

Re: Seat bolt was cut off, can\'t remove it. Help?

Well, that was my original idea... but I don't think its that simple. The holes in the seat bottom (where 1 bolt is stuck) are threaded. If I drilled a second hole in the metal plate (on the seat bottom)... and a new hole in the frame... How would I secure the new bolt in the hole in the seat? I can't use a nut, cause the nut would be somewhere in the padding of the seat (don't want a cut hole in my new seat and ruffle thru the padding!). The other option is to thread the new hole. I don't think I could thread there... at least not well.

Am I thinking right?

you should be able to push the padding away far enough to get a nut and a wrench up in there. you wouldnt have to really cut anything out of the way. i've done it a number of times. if you stick a flatbladed screwdriver in between the padding and the frame, you should be able to cause enough seperation to do the job.
