My battery went dead the other day i was wondering if it is the batt or the alternator that is no good? The batt is kind of old but the alternator is running at 12.9 volts is this sufficient to charge the batt and run head lights heater ect. at the same time if it is my alternator should i get it rebuilt or start seaching for a new one. Any input on the subject would be much appreciated cause i want to go wheelin on spring break

Alternator should be putting out somewhere around 14.2 to 14.5 volts. Best to say that if the battery is real old that it could be bad or weak and causing the conditions that you are seeing. So, saying that, get them both tested.
