Back in 1988 I wrecked my tintip and had it repaired, quite well I thought. Recently I noticed a lot of paint bubbling in the drip rails on the passenger side of the roof, scraped away the paint and found a long series of holes rusted through. They apparently started from some drilling the body shop used to pull the panels out. Anyway, after cleaning the area up, I have a hole about eight inches long and a half inch wide just above the drip rail. I have treated the area for rust and am going to shape and glue a metal panel to the inside of the roof and then fill the depression with bondo, sand and smooth. Is this the correct procedure?

Thanks in advance.

glue a metal panel

If you aren't able to weld, rather than using glue and a metal panel, you may want to use fiberglass. I originally started using the stuff to repair boats and surfboards, but it works very well for rust holes as well.

Grind out all of the rust, then cut a few pieces of fiberglass mat to the aprox size/shape of the holes. Mix resin / hardner, slop the sheets through the resin mix, apply to the body and let harden. Once it hardens it can be sanded smooth.

If at all possible weld solid, if you use this rig for off road then you will have xtra body flex and anything else would pop out quick! Thanks George; 3 >>>>>>>>
